Agree with everything you wrote. As an American I feel our government is needlessly provoking the CCP. Laughed at your "more tatters" quip! :) I'm no fan of the CCP but calling out China about Xinjiang when the camps were probably winding down (because the West wanted to slow down China in the market of solar panels, etc.,) was complete BS.

You also point out, which is often overlooked, which is that though the CCP hasn't "opened up" from all the trade, average Chinese people have. Chinese people love living here, the U.S., as far as I can tell, and love business and meeting new people.

The situation with Taiwan is very complex as you say and unlike Russia and Ukraine, from my understanding, on a street level, Chinese people from the mainland and Taiwan get along just fine. In order for China to find people who'd attack Taiwan without complaint they'd have to go to the same non-HAN as Russian went to non-Slavic. Okay, enough kook talk from me ;)
