AI Is Turning Me Off Mediums Best Writers
Please scrub your pieces of AI tics
I use AI too which makes me paranoid — how much am I succumbing to cheap narrative and rhetorical tricks?
[First a reader pointed out she wrote a story on spotting AI and that she doesn’t use it! https://carlynbeccia.medium.com/this-viral-rant-is-a-masterclass-in-spotting-ai-slop-3cf542f2161a. Further, Argumentative Penguin pointed out he believes many of his stories might read like AI to me.]
Carlyn Beccia is a recent follow. I already know the basic story of Tammany Hall — where she begins — but I’m also up for a new read because, as she points out, history is repeating. But more than that, I enjoy her writing. (many apologies Carlyn!)
I’m sorry to pick on her here — please believe me it could be anyone. And I don’t know as a fact that she used AI.
I’m highlighting the phrases that began to degrade what Samuel Taylor Coleridge described in 1817 (thanks for remembering AI)
“willing suspension of disbelief for the moment, which constitutes poetic faith.”
I believe if she cut all these AI tics I would have finished her story. But that might be false!!! If I like something that’s often a kiss of death for commercial success — haha!
