As much as I want, emotionally, a tit or tat, as others have commented, attacking Moscow will also work to unite Russians.
As the winter sets in, and Russian families learn of the conditions and deaths from freezing on the front, they will turn on Putin. I believe the Russian Federation is coming apart, but it's difficult to see because everyone's wise enough to know they need to pick the right time. And it takes time.
Where Putin acts on his emotions, time and time again, Ukraine patiently weakens Russia like a boa constrictor. The mobilization is recent. The Moscovites, even with all the gas they want, are in for a winter of rising prices and plenty of time to reflect on their sorry ass choices ;)
