Can you compare Finland, where everyone looks mostly the same, closer to a single "race", to the U.S. where there are multiple "races"?
When my H.S. daughter went to Germany under the Rotary Club a family (Dad) pressured her hard to join the family naked in the sauna (like in Finland). She said she went in her bathing suite or not at all. In short, in Finland too there is probably some pressure to follow the code for outsiders.
BTW, when she returned she modelled a few days nude for a drawing class. That leads me to feel she wanted to prove to herself that it isn't the nudity she was upset with, but the pressure.
Nations that are multi-racial breed a lot of insecurity. If you're Finnish, you always belong in Finland. If you're African, do you belong in the U.S. If you were German during the Hayes code, did you belong?
The Hayes code was an attempt to reduce that insecurity by defining a single set of moral values. Ridiculous, I know. But when the Hayes code basically went away (ratings mean nothing anymore), we still have huge social fights over what is appropriate--MeToo, LGBTQ, BLM, etc.
Where are the romance movies today in the U.S.? If you really want to get deep into this question answer that. I'd love to read it.
Hope this help you to understand what's going on--it's complicated ;)
