Countries and corporations are fiercely competitive and they get their governments to do things that keep competitors out. Part of my point is we shouldn't completely lose sight of this. For example, today China produces an EV for around $13,000 (BYD Seagull) that could be sold here. What is more important, preventing them from low-balling existing car companies in the U.S. or saving the planet?
Why wasn't NATO disbanded after 1991. What threat was Russia to Europe then? Again, I'm not making a case that Putin is justified in this war. I hate him. But I can't blame some Russians for feeling what they do; rather, I can't chalk it up to that they're just aholes.
Today, Putin IS evil. But we've been no saints either and that history has been pushed aside. I don't expect to make any friends with this piece. I hate writing it. I hate being viewed, by some, as an apologist for Putin.
When the war is over, this factors will come into play again and then it WILL be time for people to worry about nukes.
