Fascinating essay! So much one could talk about.
Trump is the first person my life who never had (or has to this day) a natural interest in government. Even Reagan probably understood the basics of economics and could find the Middle East on a map. Trump is a figurehead. He repeats the provocative things people say to him in private. That said, his disinterest has a good quality in that his narcissism doesn't get caught up in geopolitical aggression. Contrary to what people think, Trump is as arrogant to Putin as anyone else.
I believe you understand what I'm saying. (even if you don't agree) I don't believe most people do. They're repeat either Republican or Democrat party talking points.
I'm just depressing myself writing this. I didn't agree with Rumsfeld and Cheney but I understand where they were coming from. They had written documents long before the Iraq war explaining their thoughts on how the U.S. should deal with the Middle East. A bad plan, yes. But a plan.
There is no plan anymore. Not even a bad one. But maybe you're right. Maybe I just don't see it.
