First interesting essay!

I'd love to resettle some "phony" Americans too ;) My guess is that other nations would be happy to take phony refugees if Israel paid them, and the refugees, to make it desirable. This is the root problem in Israel, a belief that the Holocaust is something the rest of the world should pay for in perpetuity. Israel can't bomb its way out of this problem. Putting 90% of Gazans in tents is self-defeating. Israelis are mind-blowingly delusional if they believe anyone else is going to pay to rebuild what the IDF destroyed.

Do you really believe the U.S. is supplying weapons to Israel because of any covenant? U.S. interests in the region have NOTHING to do with the well-being of the common Israeli. The U.S. will happily fight Iran and send a message to all other Middle East Arabs down to the last Israeli.

The biggest disconnect in your story is that it doesn't foot to my experience in America with a Jewish father. I'm 63. Neither he, nor anyone in his extended family, EVER talked about going back to Israel. Israel was a place to visit, to vacation in.

Every American Jew I've met has only been interested in doing well in business, school life. They are Jews by convenience (on the holidays). And if they DO question what being Jewish is these days--as in not breaking the commandments-- they're called antisemitic.

As far as the U.S. goes, Israel is a project of the wealthy. And also of a specific generation of Jews who are now dying or have passed on. I don't see younger generations of Jews getting into the Israeli project, covenant or no covenant.

I guess what I'm saying is that by your definitions, my observations say 98% of all American Jews alive today are phony. Israelis had 30 years to integrate Gaza into general Israeli society. I don't care how evil Iran is, Israel failed to beat it. Calling American Jews antisemites won't change that.

Again, thoughtful and interesting essay!
