First, Netanyahu should have stepped down. Second, Israel needed to build a coalition with its partners to deal with HAMAS. If after 45 days, say, a consensus can't be reached than Israel should do what it wants. That's the gist of what I believed.
At this point, Israel can still pull out of Gaza. Netanyahu can still step down. I don't see that happening. Like Putin, Netanyahu has gotten Israel into a position where it can't pull out. Of course, they could. But there's too much shame and humiliation for all Israelis to deal with now.
The irony is that it is THE Israelis who have found themselves at the mercy of group (Militant Zionists). Maybe they'll feel more compassion for innocent Palestinians caught up in Gaza.
