Generally, all women get a taste because men are generally physically stronger than them and can be aggressive about sex. Definitely all women who get raped understand.

Before I was beat up I had all kinds of fantasies of how I'd be a hero in some situation with a bully. When I was beat up I felt completely helpless. I also saw the intense pleasure in their eyes. Physically, there was no real danger for me. It was the psychological part that affected me afterwards--and I believe affects anyone who experience violence in that way.

The experience didn't stop me from fantasizing about putting other people "right".

So yes, Scott to me, is me before I experienced that terror, that helplessness. I got into the situation by talking with the two guys in the first place. My friend who didn't try to "negotiate" anything was spared ;)

I'm sure they had horrible childhoods and other problems. Our society glorifies violence and "me" at every turn. There is no real violence on TV or the movies. Rather, there is tons of it. What is never shown are the consequences.

When Jack Ryan shoots a bunch of Russians in a hallway it's never shown how any of them are part time security guards who just started working yesterday and have a family with three kids, etc.

After WWII movies were careful never to let the hero kill anyone who wasn't categorically evil. Because people, who lost loved ones in the war, WOULD think about that.

Few have real experience of violence, in its fullness, these days. I agree with you, the consequences will not be pleasant for them.
