HAHA. Yes, I just chose 983 words to say it ;)

Yes, I believe it’s always been the case that policy happens happens outside electoral politics. Trudeau is just a figurehead in my book. That said, I don’t believe they know what’s going to happen any better than anyone else. When Iran shot down the U.S. drone no one knew what Trump would do — no one. If one of Trump’s kids told him he was a loser he probably would have started a war. Like you, I love to rant about this or that stupidity, but despite thousands of historians pouring over the evidence we still can’t agree on how WWI was started, or if Japan would have given up before being nuked.

When I was young I’m sure I believed in direct democracy. Now that I’m 60 I don’t believe the general public should have much say in anything. I’m with Plato. Unless you’ve been educated and proven to govern well you shouldn’t be running anything. I didn’t realize when I was in college that Plato was addressing the Peloponnesian War. I have to reread the Republic one day.

I have worked, still work, with boards. In my youth, I would have found them stuck up blowhards. Idiots. For the most part, they rubber-stamp everything. However, they’re not as stupid as I thought and they do perform a good function, really no different than the “elders” in an Indian tribe.

I’ve run a few companies for a short period of time and again, it quickly made me feel sympathetic to any CEO who was pilloried for this or that. Most people are selfish. I realize I am.

Ooops, another 983 words. One of my favorite movies is “Ghost Writer”. By the end you realize no one really knew what was, or did, happen. Polanski did it in his old age. Or the great line in “Burn This” … something like, “What have we learned here? Uh. Whatever it was. Ah. Let’s not do it again. Okay? Dismissed.”

So I read your stuff and I agree, because it make sense. But my experience is nothing ever adds up.
