Hi Melanie. I'm not a joiner. But I have prejudices, biases, things I identify with. Then they change. So who am I? Who are any of us?
I was not trying to argue that Mzi identifies as white. I was only arguing that it's POSSIBLE that if he identified as white he might not see what was happening to Lexi. Just like I'm part Jewish and I couldn't see what Israel was doing until recently. So you're taking what I wrote, sorry, out of context.
If Lexi was being abused by the producers of the show how might they manipulate various other crewmates to follow the story they wanted to tell? It's not as if Mzi, or any cast member, can truly be who they want to be. The producers purposely slot them into pre-determined story lines.
I related to Mzi. I liked Mzi. I didn't think he was a bad person. I don't think any of the cast were bad people. But the producers make the show to be entertaining, to tell a story people want to watch. All drama relies on conflict. No conflict. No audience.
My argument is they took it too far. It's ironic that you think me, some nobody writer, is taking Mzi's identity away from him when that's the exact argument I am making against the producers--that they did that with Lexi.
He didn't lose his job and his reputation. Lexi did. Maybe it was deserved. But I don't feel I have done Mzi any harm by speculating on what I believe happened. He's welcome to tell everyone what he thinks happened on reflection. None of them see what story the producers were trying to tell until everything is edited and broadcast.
I'm the only one I know of who questions how the producers have handled black people on their show. I know, I'm an old white man and it's none of my business ;)
