Hi Tessa. I was only addressing the Chinese government's success in fostering technical innovation. Agree, the US is no longer alone in technical innovation--far from it as you point out. I am surrounded by Chinese "manufactured" tech. Maybe there are others, but DJI is the only brand that seems to innovate in my hobby world (photo/video/robotics).
You mentioned Japanese tech. I follow camera tech. A few Chinese companies have tried to compete. None have succeeded--I haven't even noticed them trying anymore. Nobody touches Japanese camera tech by a mile. If Japan sunk into the sea tomorrow we'd be going back to Kodak Instamatics ;)
Although I disagree with much that you write about China it's an important subject that doesn't get enough attention. So I'm glad you're writing on it.
If you get a chance, watch some mini docs from "China Observer" or "China Insight" on YouTube. That's the other side of the story by anonymous Chinese, who remain anonymous for reasons you have to address at some point ;)
