How can you have "classes" of people and not have some respected less than others? That's human nature. Class=Difference. There were trans when I was young. Though most thought them weirdos (like me) I'd argue they were respected more in those days, then they are now. Why? Because they didn’t force others to respect them. They earned respect on their own terms, not as part of some political movement. Why don't you want to protect the class of trans who don't want to be treated "the same", whatever that means.
I agree with you, we should be respectful to everyone. But that's up to me. If I'm forced to be respectful then is it true respect, or coercion? That's the part of this argument you don't address in your piece.
