I don't believe it has had a devastating effect yet. I don't see AI, specifically, as a tool for autocracy. All con men and mafias end up torn apart or marginalized. It just takes society a while, longer than we want.

Bureaucracy always wins in the end. Part of me wishes it didn't but that's my reading of history. It isn't yours?
