I don't believe when the smoke clears the world will look at it that way. The reasons.
1. Israel chose to wall up Gaza (even if we accept the rational, Israel had to have known 16+ years would lead to a new generation of terrorists with NO experience of anything good about Israelis).
1. Israel knew Hamas' intentions. Everyone knows! And has for years.
2. Israel had the power to keep Hamas contained in Gaza
3. Therefore, the Hamas attack happened because Israel let it.
4. If a rabbid dog gets out of its cage and kills a child do we blame the dog or the one maintaining the cage? We can list 50 reasons why the dog is evil but does it matter.
5. Those kidnapped will probably see it that way too--Netanyahu, not Hamas, is responsible. Netanyahu wouldn't even speak to their families before the invasion (or delayed it by weeks). This is one of those aspect I don't believe you can wrap your head around.
6. Israel killing Hamas fighters first has taken precedence both over Israel's own kidnapped people and Palestinian children.
7. Israel cannot stop the world from thinking Israel created Hamas, let it out of its cage, and used it as a reason to clear Gaza of Palestinians for oil or some other reason (not that I believe that).
I can say it enough. All the stuff you say about Hamas doesn't change the fact that it was/is Israel's decision to go into its own prison, Gaza territory, whatever.
The irony is everyone agrees with you that Hamas is evil. But we do not judge people to be good just because the other side is evil. We judge them by what they do. And Israel has, again, killed 10,000 women and children and you simply cannot put that on Hamas, not matter how evil they are. It was you (and us, in the U.S.) that dropped those bombs.
Take the Vietnam war. What do Americans remember, a child running down the street naked from a napalm attack.
No is going to "look no further than Hamas" You can't make young people adopt this old narrative. All they see is Israel bombing people's homes. Dead women. Dead children. A lot of it is unfair. Which is why Israel should have listened to the world when it said DO NOT ENTER GAZA.
Instead, when it's over Gaza will be no more safe or unsafe than it was pre 10/7 because it will be guarded properly again. The only difference will be all the dead Palestinians and Israeli soldiers. Israelis will come to their senses and realize they achieved NOTHING because a new Hamas will reconstitute just like it did the last time. The only one who achieved something will be Netanyahu's government who hung onto power for a few extra months.
