I don't think proof of our stupidity has been hidden from those who look around and ask why this and why that.

Why do we have refrigerators that aren't connected to the outside with temperature sensors? When it's cold just open the vents. No need to waste electricity on compressors. There's no reason we can't do that. But we don't. It's a social problem as you point out. One that I don't see getting solved because it's just not part of our nature.

Then there's a technical questions. Can we harness energy to move big things around? When one flips back and forth between the social issues and technical issues it's difficult for one to come to a conclusion about either, even though, strictly speaking, they are joined at the hip.
