I doubt in his whole life Trump ever read a single of geopolitical analysis. What he was doing is repeating what he heard behind closed doors from others. Unlike most Presidents, Trump repeated the most salacious things he heard.

The Democrats, instead of agreeing it's a problem, used it to pillory Trump. I don't like Trump personally. But I'm not going to ignore something he repeated that is a real issue--and it is, as you point out.

The border is another issue. A few days ago the NYT admitted the problem is getting out of hand. Hm, where did I hear that before?

The U.S. can't project power if the American public is tricked into believing these issues are political, and not a matter of brute military force. And I mean boots on ground brute force.
