I expected the crash because the launch pad was too cheap and they are trying to do too much at the same time. If true, the crash was a huge waste of money even if rocketry development is something you want (which I do). So forget all the money. Musk is wasting our engineering talent on this and hyperloop and the boring company, etc., etc.
NASA is a public organization. People like me could relate to it. You say SpaceX is hugely profitable? How do you know? It's private? All those companies are not like NASA and share everything they can. SpaceX is more of a cult when it comes to Starship (which I suspect is a personal project of Musk's which has little connection to SpaceX's core business. No way the DoD is letting Musk call the shots on what it launches.)
So though I believe much of what you believe. Hey, life is meaningless, we have to believe in something stupid. Still, Musk is not science. He is not save the world. He is a narcissist knucklehead. I can't listen to him talk for more than 2 minutes. He knows less about science than most science YouTubers. He just ACTS like he knows as much or more.
But if he makes you happy! I get it.
For me, the ugly side of privatization away from NASA is getting uglier and uglier. For me, it's gone too far in the other direction.
