I feel it's been a long time coming. The U.S. invaded Iraq partly to keep China (Asia) out. Asia (especially China) buy most of the oil from the ME so once China had the military strength it only makes sense that it would do the same deal with the ME as Europe did generations ago.

We'll give you the weapons to maintain stability (for us) and we'll keep you rich (and ignore what you do domestically).
