I get this a lot, but mostly with people who work in a business related to real estate.
What I remember most about 2008 was a story going round that the Chinese said they'd dump their treasuries if the U.S. sided with the debtor instead of the creditor. So they didn't, as you point out.
A few years later, the Chinese were using their treasuries to buy up U.S. homes. I've see them in my neighborhood!
No country sells out its own citizens better than the good ole U.S. of A! I have nothing against the Chinese. But I do feel it unfair that they can buy anything they want here and we can't buy anything there.
