I go back even earlier ;) "Am I my brother's keeper?"
Are Jews responsible for all people living within the border of Israel. I say 'yes'. That's the cost of getting a State in a world where there are hundreds of ethnic minorities who would LOVE their own State.
Israel could have spent the money to make the Palestinians equals. But it didn't. You get what you pay for, simple as that.
Some Jews in Israel became greedy. They used a tragedy to better their lives and then didn't know when to stop. They used the Holocaust to excuse their violent ways--they hit us, we'll hit them 100x harder. Over the years, the Jews who raised the alarm were slowly silenced because as in the bible, money always ruins a people.
Jews, Palestinians, Arabs, Africans, whatever, all go back to Abel and Cain, to Adam and Eve.
Who are you or I to extend a hand to anyone? We are all God's children. A freak of history gave Jews Israel. If it was God who gave it, then as in the bible, the Jews have shown before they can't keep it. No one can keep anything who disobey him as so many Jews do (not in traditional crap, in righteous living). His rules, not ours ;)
There is a group of Jews who are filled with hate. But you seem to be okay with it. It's the Palestinians at fault. Maybe, but they are not who we should be concerned about.
I guess you think they started it. You either believe in God or your don't Nadine. Is Israel behaving in the way God wants or not. I say no. It is behaving exactly as God instructs us not to behave. I never wanted the wall. Always believed it would come to this. And now the tragedy is beyond my imagining.
To you, being Jewish is about a long history of an ethnic people. A people who experience worse persecutions than anyone else. Worse than the Fulan Gong getting their organs harvested. Worse than the Ukrainians during Holodomor. Or the Chinese intellectuals, etc. It's your tribe. That's how you describe it. To me it's about a connection to God. The Torah is just a history of people trying to understand that connection. I relate to their history. I can relate to the people who wrote it. Not as having some ethnic connection, but philosophically. I can relate to that God,.
I can't relate to your God. Jews have been given the opportunity to reach their highest levels, which they've done. As you do here, where you write. It won't be gentiles persecuting us in the future. It will be people who look at Israel as representing us. Not some magic, special antisemitism. Just plain hatred by association.
