I go into my theories in my piece, but I'll put forward a weirder one here. I believe the Iranians used old drones, as you do, and did NOT target anywhere in Israel, instead programmed them to fly over cities. Iran did NOT want to risk a retaliation. I don't believe they used many drones either. So I believe they looked on at the TV as the West kept rising their number from 50 to 300+ and shot down drones that may have not even had warheads.
Your observation about Jordan is right on--wish I had thought of it! I believe every military in the Middle East, if Iran did what I believe they did, is laughing at the Western response, at the U.K. bragging it took some down (million dollar missiles on flying junk heaps).
They're laughing that the media didn't report that Iran has ballistic missiles that could not be easily shot down, that Iran could have used them on U.S. bases or other Israeli interests. They didn't have experts on who said that Iran wouldn't announce the attack unless it had political reasons to do so.
Iran set the stage and the U.S. and Israel played their parts. On this we both agree!
