I hate to rain on your parade, Ryan! Yes, Spitzer liked to be called "The Sheriff of Wall Street" At first, I thought he was. But when he went after the mutual funds I eventually came to understand he had ZERO interest in helping the public by cleaning up the fund industry (not that it needed much cleaning, it didn't). In short, he extorted the financial companies for big headline getting fines which he used to further his political career.
He was an extortionist. I don't believe you'll find anyone who followed it at the time who will agree with your romantic portrait of him. We'll see in theses comments!
Again, I liked him in the beginning. But the more I learned the sleezier he appeared. He was a dick to so many people NO ONE in NYC was surprised his enemies found something on him. The shock was the extent of it. James Cramer was/is his best friend. They are both MONSTER intellects. I didn't know about his 1600 SAT, but not surprised! Nonetheless, they are also both off-the-scale narcissists and perhaps sociopaths.
I've written a story about one aspect of the situation at the time, as it pertained to the media and how the media can be manipulated by politicians (Spitzer mostly in this case) in government positions. https://maxrottersman.medium.com/the-wall-street-journal-couldnt-handle-the-truth-5592a62520f4?source=friends_link&sk=80e25ff1cf8d928af6a88bcce4260eca
If you want the inside fund business details behind this I'd be happy to explain on phone. Too much to write. Some is in my story but I could tell rest. Really boring stuff. I don't expect you to actually want to hear about, but just in case you really want to get to the bottom it.
