I remember when she ripped up the photo of the Pope on SNL. I didn't get it. Even then, it was obvious, whatever her faults, she was always painfully honest. I figured, she must have had an unhappy childhood and was just lashing out from some random church experience.
Fast forward a couple of decades and the whole world has been exposed to volumes of non-random evidence of child abuse by the Catholic Church. Did Sinead become a hero? Did she get a "you told us so?
Not to the "mainstream press". They'd rather focus their cameras on the workbooks which she might wear, badly matched to whatever she was wearing on top.
She never fit in. Was always the butt-end of jokes. When I think of courage of convictions. I think of her.
