I see it the other way. Never have you been more relevant. Something like a million stories are published each month on Medium. Yours get read, consistently I bet. 5k followers, for the subjects you cover is like 100K followers for the self-improvement stuff that is Medium's bread and butter.

If you marketed yourself as a Russia expert, compiled your stories into a book (I'd be glad to help), you'd be on the short list of major media interview subjects. Why don't you do this? I believe because you want the freedom to write what you want. You don't want to be pigeonholed. But you tell me. Anyway, NO ONE makes money as a generalist.
