I see this as a global phenomenon. Young men see other young men taking tanks out with advanced missiles and drones--like a video game! All the atrocities in the news just motivate them all the more (just like reports about the Huns pre WWI).

There are no twitter videos of a friend getting a bullet in the neck and dying in front of you, on a clear day with the sun shining nicely. No videos of any of the small horrors happening all over Ukraine. For the 1,000 combatants getting killed or maimed each day, there are 1,000 who have crossed the line into insanity. Will shoot at anything that moves. Will look on blankly as people are raped and tortured. Has a destiny of suicide in a lonely room years later when the war is forgotten.
