I wish I knew how to do that...maybe you'll do a follow-up piece? I write. I edit to the point of deleting 80% of what I wrote, or to the point where I'm not sure if I should be publishing what I deleted instead of saved. Depressed, I publish. Over the next 24 hours I look at the read-ratio (which you focus on in your earlier piece but don't mention here). Anyway, it usually comes in at under 20% I panic. Some survival instinct kicks in and I go in and delete even MORE while adding smart-ass turns of phrases I hope will get the reader's attention. Sometimes I get the read ratio above 40% and feel that tiny twinge of happiness. Someone comments. Even if they call me an idiot they make my day.
If only I could avoid all that misery and write great stuff. Or maybe you meant "Write, fail miserably, fix what you can, have a good cry over a beer, then try again."
