If Republicans are the party of death, then Democrats are the party of greed. We could buy off all the gun nuts if we chose. We could give them something else to get behind. We could invest in mental health. If Democrats don't recogonize why many people WANT guns in the first place, they can't fix anything, can they? The more they vellify the gun crowd the more that crowd digs in its heels. There is no real effort to bridge the divide, to address the concerns of those who vote for the far right. We're all mentally ill.

When you have money or prestige you generally move to a city and don't buy guns. When you don't, the religion of death becomes attractive.

In short, the Democrats don't need to realize what the "other" party is. It needs to hold up a mirror to see what we ALL ARE. Crudely, Americans either feel secure driving a Tesla or owning a gun. Neither should be the meaning of life.
