I'm of the same generation. But I have a different interpretation. Corporations didn't tell workers to avoid politics because of a common-sense economic reason. They told them to because they had THE power to do so. There was no free speech in the corporations of my youth.

There still isn't, but today's big corporations, the tech companies, make money manufacturing political conflict. There's no growth in large liquor companies. If anything, they're shrinking from all the competition (cannabis).

If Bud and Target do nothing they will continue to shrink from their customers' boredom in their product. They are both trying to stay relevant.

Beer drinkers won't start drinking water. There will be winners and losers in the beer industry. Should we really expect Bud to last forever? You and I probably still believe Bud is the "King of Beers". I bet many young people look at Bud as we looked at Schlitz ;)
