In science fiction the artist can achieve affects they can't achieve in any other way. That's true for animation too.

In Mr. Smith Goes to Washington the artist can question man's responsibility to man. But he can't question man's responsibility to universal civilization. He couldn't even raise the question without losing the audience as a nutjob.

In The Day The Earth Stood Still, the artist was able to pose that question and speculate on what the answer should be, should it confront humans.

It's notoriously difficult to make a (money-making) film with philosophical questions. Although that audience is small, it is always hungry for new stuff.

A Clockwork Orange blended both science fiction and male power/rape wish fulfilment. Well Kubrick, in a class of himself. As you know, I'm a huge fan of Contact and GATTACA.

The original Solaris. Another class of movies that are difficult to explain or enjoy--yet impossible to dismiss.

I'd like to see you do "The Top 10 Movies That Made Me Think The Most", or something like that. We all have different tastes. Just trying to explain mine and perhaps others.
