Many advocated that instead of the wall 30 years ago. If it wasn't so tragic, it would be amusing, 300,000 young Israelis, who were typing on their laptops a few weeks ago, arrayed against 50,000 Hamas fighters who have spent most of their lives building tunnels and avoiding the IDF. (and of course, various spots on Israel's border).
Another lesson from WWII (I know you don't have 100,000 pages to cover them all) is that the French believed I could obliterate the trenches with artillery. Didn't happen then. I don't see it happening now. Israelis are repeating that mistake IMO. As soon as infantry moves in all bets are off.
What really blows my mind is Israel is going into this behind Netanyahu, the guy who got them into all this mess. Humans are an interesting lot, to put it mildly.
