Nice piece! But I feel you gloss over a very simple fact--Jews are split between secular and orthodox, between Ashkenazi and Mazrahi, between left and right (just as the video you linked to explains). These aren't soft, gradual splits. They hard as sharp and disconnected as can be.

Who will kill Hamas terrorists? Secular Jews? Orthodox Jews? Zionist Jews? All of them? We all know most Haredi won't. Yet we all understand that without secular Jews Haredi wouldn't survive a day in the Arab majority Middle East (at least, I wouldn't want to try ;)).

The problem is that "Jews" pretend they're orthodox when persecuted (why seculars bankroll haredi IMO) and pretend secular when they want to exert muscle (kill Hamas). What is the "world" supposed to think? What side is the world supposed to take?

I plan to write a story on this soon. As tribes, why should the world care who wins, Arabs (Palestinians) or Jews. No need to fight with "human rights". It's not about that. Fight as most of that fighting has occurred for millennia.

As secular, democratic people, then you need to build some more walls and make sure your prisoners don't get out again. Yeah, you'll get a lot of flak. But hey, every Western nation does it in the end.
