Nothing I've read or studied suggests we've "grown up" one iota. We're emotional animals as someone else pointed out and we can't remember anything correctly as you pointed out. But my biggest question is this: how can you have not noticed that the phasers on the Enterprise fired at 45-degree angles from their target? You truly are remembering all the wrong stuff! ;)
