Of course, most Americans couldn't care less. Biden and Blinken have both told Israel to back off. Are you arguing they did that for show? Remember, their republican opponents will use it against them! I for one won't vote for Biden because of it (and it's not because I think Israel evil or anything like that). He should have stepped in with a firm hand starting Oct/8 and prevent this from spiraling out of control.

Israelis should care because they have a good deal with the U.S. They co-develop weapons and can leverage that into more money for other reasons. It's very difficult to change such arrangements. Inertia. Too many money interests, etc.

But IF Democrats lose elections because of Israel they'll cut these deals to win new ones. Remember, Egypt also competes with Israel for U.S. dollars. And Jordan. KSA for other things.

Israel is BEGGING the question, what does the U.S. need them for? As you said, so many other problems. Americans hate giving money to other countries (because they're idiots of course, but still).

Israel had years to solve the problem, either through a 2-state or integration. In the years ahead, because it didn't do that, it will have to accept a super-powers plan--the history of the Middle East from time memorial ;)

I'm not worried about the orange madman. It's all the same horrible people behind the scenes.
