Our Response to Covid Proves Climate Change Won’t Be Stopped (By Humans)

All Talk of Preventing Climate Change Is Futile

How did we get here. How will we continue on?

Computer-y phones have completely depersonalized the acquisition of food, clothes, shelter, sex, status, gossip, safety, control, transportation, entertainment, etc.

No more going to stores near (Main Street) or far (Malls).

But we must increase what we have! The internet does a great job at hiding our destructive greed when our gain becomes another person’s loss.

There’s nothing petty about human nature that the Internet hasn’t made worse.

When Covid-19 was first identified, the mechanisms for preventing a pandemic were perfectly understood. It doesn’t matter if Covid-19 was accidentally released from a lab, the pandemic that followed was man-made.

For a few minutes the intelligent approach was discussed: trace (identify), contact (inform) and isolate (quarantine to let virus burn out and prevent further infections). Everyone wanted that. No one did it because they knew it wouldn’t work before even trying.

It was some amazing telepathic understanding between us. We run factories “growing” cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, fish and so on and so forth. Really, why am I still surprised?

We had the tools to beat the virus back into oblivion. Indeed, with the internet we had the perfect tool! Why didn’t it happen?

Well, the reason is simple. Recognized as far back as Cain and Abel. People are not good at sharing (this is true for many animals, like dogs). Each of us is a jealousy machine.

A desire for things that cannot be fully satiated because security is based on a known future — which is impossible — making many us hoarders too.

My insecurity makes it easy for me to accept, on the government’s authority, that if the same amount of stimulus is given to everyone we will prevent the pandemic from causing a depression, follow-on domestic crime and global war.

See, what happens if you can’t acquire what you want? Spite.

How do you fix a spiteful person? Who knows! Again, the Internet is NOT a spite reducer.

Theoretically, with the help of the internet, humanity should have made short work of Covid-19. Within a few months we could have taken control, reduced its spread to a manageable rate and gotten on with our lives. Instead some countries did that (mostly because they had favorable cultures or geographies to do so), while others let it spread while waiting for a vaccine.

We never worked together.

I have no idea what will happen tomorrow. My conclusion is the internet creates more communication, surely, but doesn’t change our individual instinctual selfishness. Indeed, it amplifies it. We have no mankind survival instinct. Our selfishness is, and will, win out.

Will we stop carbon emissions, from cow farts to fracking vents? Never, never ever going to happen. Never, ever going to happen, never, ever. Never, never, ever gonna happen…
