She’s such a great writer and has a first-class intellect but in the final analysis, like you, I wonder if I’m just fooled by talent. Another person I often push back against is indi.ca. He’s Sri Lankan and as you know Sri Lanka is doing horribly. I feel the U.S. could do more to help. I feel this is the time indi.ca could rail against the U.S. as he usually does and I’d be sympathetic. Yet he is quiet on the U.S. now. I believe that’s the way of real suffering. You can’t blame anyone. It’s way beyond that. It makes no sense. There is no right or wrong anymore. We are ALL guilty.

All we can do is voice our opinion. So I believe you did the right thing even if the outcome was bad. Something you say may resonate with her months, years down the line. I think about the people I pushed off and later their remarks hit me. I remember the woman who was so against the first Iraq war which I thought okay. I can’t remember her name now. But I remember her talking to me and looking at me as if I didn’t get it. I didn’t. But I do now. She had put the seed of truth in my head. Eventually, it did sprout.
