Still resonates with me 'cause I'm white and 61...however, you articulated much of what my subconscious mind grumbled. I don't feel anyone should use the N word, cheaply like that, in public. It was okay when Richard Pryor did it, when blacks were first crossing over into the middle class, not anymore. I've never heard any black people I know using that word in pubic.

I also found his stories about young women wanting shoes and older women new roofs bizarre, coming from a man with two daughters. You're right, his massive comic skills and experience carried a show that at heart was shallow.

I wouldn't compare Rock to Dave Chapelle who is operating, IMO, at a high intellectual level. Chapelle's SNL routine about "The Jews" is next level stuff. Chapelle, whatever his warts, is trying to understand how society works. He makes you think. He goes after sacred cows. He basically argued that Jews can bankrupt the most successful black overnight yet no black could do the same to a white person. On National TV. Of course, some Jews went after him. But I got it.

Anyway, thanks for your piece clarifying what bothered me. But Dave Chapelle some "old ass comic"? Like calling Beethoven an old ass composer while he's writing his 9th symphony ;)
