On Thursday, April 13th, the F.B.I. went to arrest Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old guardsman of the U.S. Air National Guard, who they suspected shared classified documents on Discord.

If a Guardsman of the U.S. Air National Guard is not trying to hide from the authorities, should he be treated respectfully when arrested?

Trump didn’t have to submit to mug shots when he was arraigned. Why was a Guardsman treated like a proven terrorist?

Now, I don’t really care about Teixeira or Trump personally, but I do care about the competence of my government and appearance of fairness.

So I’m wondering why the F.B.I. sent in an armored vehicle with heavily armed agents to arrest a 21-year-old in his underwear who apparently expected them? Let’s roll the tape:

  • Agents with machine guns clumped together in a way that if there was a terrorist group in the woods they would have been quickly killed. Hey F.B.I., either spread out or stay in the truck is this arm-chair general’s view.
  • Excessive force which demonstrates an inability of the F.B.I. to assess the non-existent threat of a man in his underwear. How am I supposed to trust the F.B.I. in light of that?
