The U.S. has a strong relationship to Israel for two reasons. 1) Most Jews are very clever (or used to be ;) ) They built the atomic bomb. The American elite was, "we'll take more of that." Then Jews in Israel said we're trying to be pushed out. The U.S. sent some weapons. Israel sent them back working better than they left the factory. Again, the U.S. was "we'll take more of that."

There is a 3rd group you don't mention. Those who support smart people (who can turn a desert into paradise). The problem is that the weapons are no longer used for Israel's national security, they're being used to solve domestic problems.

The reason the U.S. was able to become "united" is that no State had absolute advantage over the other. They all needed something from each other. Israel needs nothing from Gaza. Rather, it does, but it won't negotiate fairly, IMO.

This is a problem the U.S. should have prevented from happening. Ain't the U.S. strong suit.

Hope you're well. Nice piece.
