There's a difference between abdicating one's responsibiity and not having the moral position to fullfil it. Like WWII the U.S. is pursuing isolationism while world wars spread. Sure, there are huge internal problems in the U.S. I can match you doom and glooming there ;)

But, surprise, you do get something when you spend $1 trillion a year on defense. The U.S. could crush Putin today and maybe the world get back to business. Instead, by the time the U.S. acts it will be a free for all.

In theory, sanctions could work. We just don't have the time and most Americans don't read enough history to understand that. My 2-cents!
