This is exactly what I believe which is why I believe it's possible the U.S./EU could have (maybe) prevented the war. Indeed, if I had to blame any nation for the war (beyond Putin) it would be Germany. I mean, if even Trump sees the problem you have a problem ;)
Because of German history, they are head-cases. So, blaming them isn't simple either.
Which leaves the U.S. If Biden had offered Germany cheap LNG (before the war) to counter Russia where would we be? If the U.S. had let Nordstream II go through, where would we be? Sure, Putin would have kept screwing with Ukraine but he and his regime are old with no succession plan. Okay, that didn't happyen. So when he started massing troops on the border why wasn't the U.S. massing troops on the Polish border? Why isn't it doing that today (intent do drive Russia out of Ukraine, not protect Poland)?
