We know more about European nations and we relate to them more (since they still resemble their historical forms).

However, I don't see how warfare in the regard of "forcing people" is a European development, it's as old as recorded history. We know the Sumerians used them and the Egyptians.

Again, because those trade routes and structures are no longer relevant it's easy to believe the Europeans created something different.

There are always the elites, the middle class, and everyone else who is conscripted into war. I believe there have always been elite "officers" and professionals (how they got into the middle class).

We have a different view of history I guess :)

Or put another way, you see the problem as part of a structure issue of Whyte Empire. I see it as part of all human behavior. Different names, same phenomena.
