Well Rob, this certainly isn't the story I expected! But I love a good rant and you delivered.
Were the Southerners in the Civil War of 1861 "rebels"? This rant completely glosses over the fact we're a Federalist Union of States. The Executive Branch is an arbitrator of those interests and tries to keep everyone in, like, one nation.

I watched Trump's speech on Jan 6th. It was no different than any other of his bombastic exhortations to "take back the country". Who watches what he really said?
IF there was a real insurrection Congress and the Senate have the power to do something about it. And I believe they would. The Jan 6th people put in prison weren't put in prison for treason, they were put in prison for trespassing and destroying government property.
Far be it for Biden to try to get them leniency. No. Let those "vile" people learn their lesson.
To me it's all fear mongering. Where you see power hungry conspirators, I see mostly angry and disenfranchised people.
Why are they angry?
I believe, like you, that we're always in civil war. Why is it heightened now?
The same as last time. Rural (resource producing) interests over tech (back then industrial) interests.
One of my bugbears is climate change. Biden "believes" in climate change. Great! His answer is to give tax breaks to people who buy EVs. Here in Blue-State Cambridge I see many $100,000, seven-thousand pound Rivians driving around. Cybertrucks too. Every expensive EV you can imagine. Sit near Harvard or MIT and you won't have to wait long to see one.
Has New England increased the proportion of Wind/solar to fossil fuels? No.
How many people at that Jan 6th do you think takes a $$3,750 tax break to buy a $100,000 EV?
Yet Biden is doing something about climate change. I don't think you could hurt the planet more then giving a tax break for the manufacture of a 7,000 lb machine that burns more fossil fuels than a gas-burning Corolla, requires tons of fossil fuels to dig up and process battery components, and create a battery that ultimately can't be recycled (so far).
Sorry, I believe Biden was a worse President than Trump. And I HATE Trump. Really hate him. Biden has made half the country even angrier. He did nothing to reach across the aisle. He has allowed the tech companies to suppress free speech (silence Trump). It ain't gonna work forever.
