What's going on! I usually agree 100% in what you write but here we are again, I have to quibble. For context, I'm 61, white, no family wealth, went to public schools that were largely black in NYC.

A black professional couple recently moved onto our block in Cambridge, which is, near Harvard and MIT, mostly white. I heard that they were either going to move to Dorchester, which has a large black population, where I'm sure they'd be royalty (both highly educated and successful) or our neighborhood where they'd just be another professional couple. They came here. Why? Because I believe they identify with intelligence over race. And they're originally from the South BTW.

They have the same problem I had at their age, ambition and intelligence and no inherited wealth. In short, the problem for blacks isn't lack of VC funding but generational wealth. They don't want to be identified as "black', with separate VCs, they want to be identified as smarter and harder working than the next guy.

It takes generations to build family wealth. Blacks are building it here. Not a lot of them. But there aren't a lot of whites doing the same either (in similar circumstances).

I'm not trying to sugar coat anything. Black are still at a very disadvantageous position in the U.S. But if they keep on the trend of the past 40 years then I believe there will be parity in the next 40 years--as long as ALL intelligent people aren't thrown in prison by white fascists ;)

I don't know anything about your life. But my guess is you could get a job at a VC if you REALLY wanted it. That world is ALWAYS in need of good writers, communicators.

This is a deep subject. I could write for pages. I'll leave it here that I strongly believe that anything that separates blacks based on race, like "black VCs" does more harm than good. Another view of mine you may like, "BLM" also has done more harm than good.

Years ago I wrote an article explaining why I believed blacks were doing so well. I predicted there would be a black president. Seriously. Some blacks who read the piece were deeply offended. They didn't like how I characterized some of them as someone like Uncle Toms. Obama is a complex story, but though there are some things I don't like about him, he is in the top 1% of drop-dead smart people on the planet. He never played the race card. He kept laser focused on the prize--getting to the top using only his brain.

He's an inspiration to me because all I want are intelligence people running the country, black or white, liberal or conservative.

I scared this story will offend you, but I'd like your opinion. It's unlisted so let me know if the link doesn't work. https://maxrottersman.medium.com/raymond-mcguire-african-american-investment-banker-2006-3b79da6b72f3?source=friends_link&sk=849cb5f5a10871ca594705af73ebdeb1
