Why Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s Visit with Putin is A Game Changer
Whatever one thinks of Israel, one thing is for certain. Their military has been fighting for 70 years. Whether one classes them as aggressor or defender doesn’t matter. War is a part of Israeli life.
So when Bennett visits Putin he can tell Putin what no one else will — the Ukraine “military operation” has failed.
Bennett as mediator is secondary.
Israel has satellites, drones, agents in Russia and I bet some military specialists in Ukraine. Israel knows. But what’s really important is now Putin knows. Before Bennett’s visit, we couldn’t assume he did.
And Putin knows that Israel is no shill for the U.S., despite media doggerel.
I don’t know what happens from here out. If Putin believes his government can walk the invasion back, diplomacy will make progress through Israel. If he is mentally ill, then, who knows.
I don’t believe Russia can turn Ukraine into Homs, Aleppo or Stalingrad. Behind the scenes a mobilization of weapons into Ukraine grows exponentially by the day.
Those secret facts and figures of what’s crossing the border Bennett would also convey.
I’m surprised the media doesn’t recognize how Bennett’s visit is a turning point. I don’t believe the importance can be overstated.
Bennett told Putin the truth.
