Yes, the U.S. has a long history of playing an oil mafia. Refinery mafia. Then they added ethanol mafia. Then shale. On and on. However, the U.S. also does a fair bit of tech and other things, so in the end much more diversified than Russia.

However, your point stands. The problem is I see it is Russians are clear eyed after the revolution. But they are dead and so are the American who understood WWII, Vietnam, etc. We're entering a new world where young people, the new rulers, will repeat the mistakes of the old.

Who knows, maybe Russia gets #1 now. Or China ;) Maybe when all the big dogs fight India will get the bone!
