You've nailed how I feel about Trump. However, I can't see how Trump has learnt the first thing about geopolitics, even after four years as President.
Russia will not negotiate until it has gains it can hold onto, which so far, I don't believe it does. If you think it through carefully I believe you will come to that conclusion. If you don't, I'd love to hear the reasoning.
I don't believe Chomsky was talking a practical solution, but the theoretically best one.
Assuming we knew for a fact that Russia wouldn't use nukes, the U.S., working with Ukraine on the ground, could obliterate Russia's military. It's more than that fact that the U.S. military spending is 10x Russia's. Or maybe that's all you need to know. People just don't get how technologically advanced the U.S. and Western allies are. The media tries to make it a horse race, but it isn't.
It doesn't matter if you look at Russian or Ukrainian footage of the war. It is being fought with basically 1980s technology at best--40 year old tech. Of coruse, in a ground war, troop training and effort can make a big difference, as it has been.
So the question you need to answer for yourself is does Russia know how capable the West technology is? Yes. We know that because it is trying to win the war through terror. It is literally blowing up everything in its path. Did you see that in Iraq? The original shock and awe was against government buildings. But I digress.
We know that because Russia keeps threatening nukes. Why threaten nukes if you know you can beat someone one on one?
What if Trump were able to set up a negotiation where he helped get to that "deal". What deal could it possibly be?
What happened with Trump's deal with North Korea? Everyone who knows anything knew that would not work out because, unlike Trump, they understand that China has the final say on what North Korea agrees to.
It doesn't matter if Russia takes control of Donbas. No one cares, which I've covered in some of my stories. The reality is Russia has lost and the only good option for it is to keep fighting and hope for a huge blunder by Ukraine or, I don't know, an astroid hitting the U.S. and preventing more arms shipments. Or China joining the fight.
The media has one thing right, no autocratic government (really any government) survives if they lose a war. Can you see the West agreeing to a settlement where it promises not to go after everyone in Putin's regime for war crimes? I can't.
Sorry for the long comment.
